My friends tell me that I overthink and overanalyze everything. This comes up most often when I am knitting. They tell me that whenever I learn a new technique, instead of relaxing and just doing it, I turn it into a physics problem.
Well, I’ve been thinking about what they’ve said, and I’m just not sure they’re right. Take a nonknitting example that happened yesterday at work. (Well, actually, the baby bell bottoms were lying on my desk after lunch knitting, so does this actually fall into a knitting, rather than a nonknitting, example? Hmmm… Let me think about it…)
MY BOSS: “Faith, are you using your battery backup?”
ME: “What do you mean, ‘Am I using my battery backup?’”
MY BOSS: “The battery backup that your notebook is plugged into, are you using it?”
ME: [Raised eyebrows] “Well, my notebook’s plugged into it. What do you mean, am I using it?”
MY BOSS: “I’m not going to take it. I just want to know if you are using it.”
ME: “Well, I guess not at the moment. I mean, I have things plugged into the battery side so that when the power goes out, those things stay on, but I’m not on the battery…”
MY BOSS: “So, it’s still working? We have to order new batteries for them.”
ME: “Oh, yeah, it’s fine.”
MY BOSS: “Well, some people turn them off [and use the standard outlets in them that are not powered by the battery] when the batteries die and aren’t using them.”
ME: “Oh, no, mine’s on, and it’s fine. I guess I overanalyzed that one, huh?”
MY BOSS: “Yes, you did.”
Okay, so maybe my husband, and my family, AND my friends *sigh* are…*gulp*…right, but you’ll never hear me admit it again (until the next time).
Have a nice Wednesday, everyone. And on a serious note, please pray for RAM. He’s not feeling well. For RAM to admit that he’s not feeling well means that he’s really down for the count.

Hope RAM gets to feeling better too.

Good Thursday morning and . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Comment by Chosen Thursday, March 20, 2008 @ 6:46 amI relate to the over thinking so much. I can take a simple pattern and turn it into a complex problem.
Comment by marti Thursday, March 20, 2008 @ 5:28 pmHow about a twelve step program? Overthinkers Anonymous? Marti and I are the first official members!
(Does this mean I’ll have to come up with the twelve steps in a future post???)
